The everlasting man
Cover Illustration for Word On Fire
Overview
Word On Fire tasked Yondr Studio with the development of a portrait of the late great G.K. Chesterton for their republication of his masterpiece, The Everlasting Man.
G.K. Chesterton (1874-1936) was a writer, philosopher, Christian apologist, and literary and art critic, well known for his apologetics and fictional priest-detective series, Father Brown. Widely regarded as one of the greatest and most prolific writers of the 20th century, it was a genuine honor to contribute to his memory in this way.
The majority of the final drawing was done on scratchboard with time constraints requiring the remaining elements to be completed digitally.
The artwork was embossed on the cover providing a tactile quality fitting for the wood engraving styling used within the portrait.
As an added thank you, a short run of prints was made on my 1897 Chandler & Price letterpress machine, along with hand set title cards, and delivered to Word On Fire at the conclusion of the project.
Thanks again to Rozann Lee and Word On Fire for bringing me in on such a special project.
