The concept revolved around a hypothetical “coastal series” of wines which would feature, on each label, a &nbsp;different species of seabird found within the region—in this case, seagulls and the central California coast. <img width="3000" height="2143" width_o="3000" height_o="2143" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/dd2bb677ac5c6930ea0a3ba8b29f0f3b65b6ac70d7bda6d90515d25a4595b863/Yondr-Studio-Wine-Label-4.jpg" data-mid="187036625" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/dd2bb677ac5c6930ea0a3ba8b29f0f3b65b6ac70d7bda6d90515d25a4595b863/Yondr-Studio-Wine-Label-4.jpg" /> Process While the end product would be line art, the initial sketch was rendered tonally, using pencil, to allow for a speedier exploration and representation of the subject’s values and textures. Once these preliminaries were established, final art was then produced using pen and ink on a sheet of Bristol board. Gold was used to both speak to the strong perception of sunshine present in the illustration as well as to invoke a greater sense of refinement. illustration for Runcible CiderRole: Illustrator &amp; Designer CD: Rob &amp; Kelly McCune 2022 Packaging Branding OverviewLong time client, Runcible Cider Company, tasked me with the role of designing a label for their new, apple based, vermouth, ORE No. 001. Vermouth being a departure from their usual line of ciders, the primary objective was to create a label that would set this drink apart as a higher end offering. The concept behind the name is a play on both the Oregon state abreviation as well as ore—the local rocks, metals, and minerals that contribute to the flavors of the ingredients contained within the drink. So, we dipped into the archive and produced ornamentation and a seal in the tradition of old official certificates and documents. The task assigned to me in this rebrand was that of reworking the historical Stetson crest into a modern responsive logo design that would also retain the character of Stetson’s earlier hand drawn crests. To do this, we looked to the earliest versions of the crest—which had been drawn using pen and ink techniques and reproduced by way of handmade wood engravings—while also diving into the meaning beneath the symbolism present in the crest. Namely, pencils, pens, and paper. The limitations of these traditional mediums provided the constraints necessary to produce a revised crest which reflect Stetson’s values and character. of the first printing techniques required illustrators of the past to work within the constraints of relief printmaking methods. Initially, such methods consisted of artisans painstakingly cutting around the lines of a provided pen drawing as they prepared a printing block for the press—that is to say, tediously reproducing the techniques of pen and ink with a graver and wood. But soon wood engravers would develop techniques characteristic of their own medium. This new method of engraving gave prominence to “the white line” or the negative space cut away by the graver and allowed for wider and more accurate representations of value and texture. Today, these illustration techniques remain incredibly effective in both print and digital media due to the high level of contrast they afford—not to mention the beautiful effect produced by hundreds of meticulously scrutinized over lines.
